Responsible service of alcohol
Responsible service of alcohol is vital for legal, health and community reasons.
Our society is now less tolerant of the irresponsible use of alcohol that leads to drunkenness, drink driving and under-age drinking. We are now far more aware of the serious social problems that are associated with such behaviour.
Revesby Heights Ex-Servicemen's Memorial Club has adopted the following policy which provides a framework for the responsible service of alcohol.
1 In order to prevent under-age access and drinking we will require proof of age to be provided when requested.
2 Persons who are intoxicated will be refused admission to our premises.
3 We will display and refer to "Intoxication" signs in order to support our responsible attitude and meet the requirement of legislation.
4 Any patron in this establishment will be denied service if they are considered to be intoxicated.
5 We will educate our staff and patrons as part of our Duty of Care to ensure that they understand the implications and abide by our responsible service of alcohol policy.
6 We will support and actively promote initiatives to minimize drink driving in order to safeguard the well being of our Members and their Guests.

REVESBY HEIGHTS EX-SERVICEMEN'S NON-SMOKING POLICY

In line with the current studies that have confirmed a potential link between passive smoking and an adverse range of health issues caused by environmental tobacco smoke, the Club is committed to phasing in a non-smoking policy that isolates smoking to particular areas within the Club.

The object of the policy shall be to encourage non-smoking by

* Educating members, patrons and employees of Revesby Heights Ex-Servicemen's Memorial Club about the effects of passive smoking and environmental tobacco smoke

* To highlight significant benefits that will arise when they support the policy and assist the Club in its endeavours to designate smoke free ares within the Club. In developing this policy, the Club has realistically taken into account the nature of the workplace, in particular

* The physical layout of the Club

* The nature of the work and its emphasis on hospitality and customer service

* The availability and effectiveness of ventilation in various designated smoking areas

WHAT IS ENVIRONMENTAL TOBACCO SMOKE (ETS)?

ETS is a combination of exhaled mainstream smoke and sidestream smoke.

* Mainstream smoke is the smoke that smokers inhale directly from their cigarette. Exhaled mainstream smoke is therefore the smoke that smokers exhale.

* Sidestream smoke comes from the end of a lit cigarette and contains much higher levels of carcinogens and other substances than exhaled mainstream smoke. 85% of ETS in an average room is sidestream.

ETS has been found to be a potential irritant to the eyes and respiratory tract, and to may people has an offensive odour. It increases the chance of contracting or aggravating a range of illnesses including

*Cardio-vascular

*Lung Cancer

*Asthma

*Acute irritation of the respiratory tract

*Bronchitis and Pneumonia

The higher the level of exposure to ETS, the greater the risk of contracting these illnesses.

WORKPLACE AREAS DESIGNATED AS SMOKE-FREE

Areas which have been considered for immediate designation as smoke-free areas

*Bistro

*The Dining Room

*The Auditorium

*A Function Room with food

*Immediately in front of any Bar (i.e. approx 3 to 4 metre distance from beer taps)

IMPLEMENTATION AND REVIEW OF POLICY

In September 2001, Revesby Heights Ex-Servicemen's Memorial Club commenced the gradual implementation of this policy in line with its commitment to the reduction of exposure to ETS throughout the Club. In accordance with the relevant Occupationa Health and Safety Legislation, the Smoke Free Environment Act 2000, and the requirements of the Club, its members, employees and other affected persons, it is the intention of the Club to continue to review this policy on a regular basis.
